Working in partnership to build a strong future for our NHS
For more than 35 years, ISS has been supporting the NHS through world-class facilities management solutions, including catering, cleaning, portering, security and more, helping Trusts to provide the best possible care for patients.
At ISS, we understand and recognise the difficulties and challenges facing our NHS, and we’re here to help. Our dedicated teams go above and beyond to ensure that clinical staff are able to focus their core activity on carrying out their life-saving work.
We offer specialised non-clinical support which can improve the operational efficiency of NHS services, from delivering meals that delight and aid patient recovery to improving patient flow and experience through our portering and on-ward teams.
Whether it's providing safe, clean environments, proper nutrition or just being there for a friendly chat, our people are committed to enhancing the patient experience.
Over more than three decades, we've established ourselves as a dedicated partner of the NHS, valued and relied on not just by those who receive care, but also by those who dedicate their lives to delivering it.
As such, we're passionate about supporting NHS people and places deliver vital services to communities across the country, from increasing operational efficiency and patient experience to tackling maintenance backlogs and making Trust estates fit for the future.
Our people are the friendly faces who have direct contact with dozens of patients and their visitors, many times each day. They act as a crucial touchpoint for those receiving care and make a significant impact on their experience while in hospital.
From patient rooms to boiler rooms, we manage and maintain every aspect of a Trust's estate so that we can advise on and implement improvements to make properties smarter, more sustainable and more agile to meet the future needs of the NHS.
All our services for the NHS have been honed over 35+ years to ensure a consistent, streamlined service. We also bring our expertise as a partner to healthcare organisations around the globe to deliver innovative, best-practice solutions for NHS Trusts.
We're proud to deliver solutions that improve performance, increase productivity and enhance efficiency for NHS estates across the country. A key part of those solutions is the design, planning and deployment of a wide range of projects work, carried out by our specialist team. From building fit-outs and refurbs to surveying and solar panel installation, we're helping the NHS to build for the future.
And, of course, we're committed to creating outstanding workplaces where everyone can thrive. As an employer to more than 27,000 people across the UK and Ireland, we're experts in change management and organisational design projects. We've worked with many NHS clients to design unique and innovative service delivery models that create unified, inclusive cultures and get the most from both in-house and outsourced facilities teams.
New technologies have the potential to radically transform the way care is delivered to NHS patients in the future. At ISS, we've partnered with global AI expert, Inma Martinez, to explore how these new tools could help us to run smarter, safer and more sustainable buildings that put the needs of people first. As a strategic partner to the NHS, our first priority is the safety and wellbeing of people and the communities where we all live and work. We're proud of the award-winning safety culture we've embedded across our operations, and are trusted by Trusts to help keep their staff, patients and visitors safe and healthy.
In addition to being on our own journey to full-scope Net Zero by 2040, we're also committed to championing sustainable workplaces for our clients, helping to make material difference by reducing waste, optimising usage of resources and changing human behaviours.
At ISS, we focus on areas where we can make material difference — energy management, food, space planning and resource optimisation. This helps us to advise on and implement strategies for reducing the impact of client estates on the environment.
We attract people who care, with the service mindset and passion needed to make a difference for our customers. We create a welcoming, supportive culture that embraces inclusion and diversity and empowers people to be creative, innovative and productive.
We are proud of our long-running partnership with DFN Project SEARCH, working together to improve the lives of young adults with learning disabilities and autism by providing them with internships and on-the-job training on our NHS client sites.
We maintain rigorous standards when selecting the partners we work with on NHS estates, making sure that we only work with organisations who will help the NHS to better serve its people, patients and local communities. Food services, in particular, is an area where we can make a big impact, and we're proud to partner with industry leaders like those below to help Trusts across the country to improve patient experience, reduce waste and be more sustainable.
Since 2022, our partnership with patient catering leaders apetito has focused on providing food that meets our patient's standards of quality while further reducing food waste, sourcing ethically and lowering carbon emissions as part of its industry-leading Net Zero commitment.
ISS works with Olio across 35 NHS hospitals (and counting) to redistribute unused food to local families in need. The partnership is a brilliant way to help Trusts reduce food waste and advance sustainability goals while supporting those in the local community.
At a number of NHS sites, we've partnered with Change Please, an award-winning UK social enterprise. Change Please donates 100% of profit to help people experiencing homelessness by providing a Living Wage job, training, housing and onward employment opportunities.
With more than 35 years of experience supporting the NHS, ISS takes pride in supporting patient recovery through our food service, delivered with a smile by our People Who Care.
We work closely with our partners at apetito to ensure the highest quality of food and evolve our product range to meet the evolving needs of NHS patients — but always with a focus on creating positive patient experiences, reducing waste and creating a more sustainable future for the NHS.
